We evaluated MiniMax’s new open-weights MiniMax-M3.1-Flash on Vals Index v2.2 and its components.

#15 of 22 on the Vals Index (53.78%) at $3.87 per test, #5 of 11 open-weights models, just behind MiMo V2.6 Flash (54.83%).

Big gains over MiniMax-M3 on Vibe Code Bench (73.94% vs 47.57%) and Tax Agent Bench (32.14% vs 20.59%, #6 of 27 open-weights models), plus EMB v1.1 (67.84% vs 59.75%), Finance Agent v2.1 (58.83% vs 54.34%) and Legal Research Bench (34.13% vs 29.81%).

Weaker on long-horizon agentic work: Terminal-Bench 4.0 (25.25%, #22 of 51) and Harvey’s Legal Agent Benchmark (7.50%, #17 of 23).
MiniMax M3.1 Flash is priced at $0.60 per million input tokens and $2.40 per million output tokens. We ran it via the official MiniMax API at temperature 1, top_p 0.95, compute effort max and 262k max output tokens.
